Anyone Adopting from India???

Hi
A bit of background to why domestic adoption doesn't seem possible for us as international adoption was something we wanted to avoid due to perceived complexities.
Both my husband and i are of Indian heritage and failed ivf.
We have been looking into domestic adoption and to be honest trying to get the LA to agree to speak with us at the open event was a struggle for Q&A after the presentation.
At the open event they told us they are not interested in South Asian adopters and that took some convincing there.
Arranging a home visit again was an uphill battle an then the visit itself and the visit itself didn't leave much space for positivity.
So as we're not feeling great about the LA.
VA didn't seem an option we wanted to pursue.
We found out about an agency that helps with international adoptions but to be honest they focus on getting you approved at home and then we need to go out to India for the process there. Once approved the authorities matches us on CARA and we get to be parents (cliff notes version).

India seems to be the obvious option for internationaladoption.
Does anyone have any experience of adopting from India and willing to share some insights??

Any progress with your adoption story? I am not sure it is that easy. If you are OCI you will be considered after all Indians and NRIs who want to adopt. I don't have any insight. That's what I got just from researching it. Keep us updated on how it goes?

Are they not interested because you live in an area which has hardly any others of your ethnicity?
Or is it a general 'problem' that culturally children would be taken in by extended family and so even in areas with a lot of south Asians there just wouldn't be demand for adopters?

I'm wondering whether contacting a neighbouring LA, or you nearest appropriate city might give you more success? Sometimes they will want to place children out of area.

Hi @underthenameofsanders
It seems to be a case of not enough asian children. We are willing to consider mixed race children thats the reason LA shifted a little. Then the LA cancelled the visit on the day due to staff issues.
So we won't have an appointment until mid October now, partially because we are going on holiday.
The LA is a consortium of 4 LAs
The number of asian children a lot smaller nationally too.
We know it can be either domestic adoption or international.

Hi @tikha
We've not made much progress yet.
We are aware the process is complicated, but do not know of any people who have adopted from India so it would be great if we could speak to someone about the process.
We are aware we need to apply for an OCI. DH needs to apply for his and once he gets it i will be able to apply (neither of my parents were born in India)
We're trying to get some more information and my In-laws are going to India in February so the more information we have the more they can speak with a lawyer out there for some advise (they still have some useful contacts out there that maybe able to point us in the right direction)
Once we're back from our holiday and have the initial meeting with the LA hopefully happens we will organise a meeting with the international adoption agency

I have to get married to my partner before we can go to India. What international agency are you using to assess your home situation.

PositivelyHopeful · 25/09/2018 21:08

Hi Tikha
We met with the Yorkshire Adoption Agency

@tikha Hi Tikha
I know this post is old but if you are able to give an update of your experience that would be great. Did you manage to adopt from India?
