Adoption and financial support

Hi all. We have been approved to adopt and have been given a financial support package for a set period of time via the LA. Does anyone know if the amount stated is before/after tax and if it is after, how do they even calculate tax?

We are figuring out our finances but don’t like to ask the SW.

Hi, adoption allowances are not taxable. If you apply for tax credits you don't need to declare it.

I definitely do need to do some research - I have no idea about tax credits or any other entitlements. Will sort that out! But very glad to know what they give you is exactly what you will be able to use. Appreciate your guidance.

you probably should also take a look at DLA (Disability Living Allowance) and dont forget Child Benefit
