Doctors registration

Just after your experiences of registering your children at the doctors while still known as their birth name.
I'm concerned as my doctors put the name up on a screen when a patient is called and for obvious reasons I'd like to avoid that.
Anyone have a surgery that has a great plan in place for looked after children?
My doctors receptionists have form for being being fairly unhelpful so I'd just like to have a few suggestions up my sleeve when they tell my tough!
Do they let you use your surname from the get go as an alias for example?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Could you make appointments under your name and explain to the doctor when in the room? It would work for mine as everything is on the computer, no notes need to be brought up.

Our surgery registered them with my surname and held their birth surname as “also known by”, is that an option?

We spoke to the Head Receptionist as she was more familiar with adoption than the other people on reception. She just said she'd register him under our surname and put a note on his file to say he is a LAC.
I have a friend who adopted two sisters, and she always had issues with them calling the girls full first and surname out, even though she explained to them the reasons she didn't want this happening (the names were very unusual).
I guess all you can do it speak to them and explain why they cannot call the LO's name out, and as Jelly says, register in your surname.
We're lucky in that we're 'out of area' from where the birth family live and our LO isn't at risk, but we still want to make sure there's no safeguarding risk as his current surname is very unusual.

I'm in a similar situation where the name is a little I usual so hopefully they will let me use my surname.

Ask to speak to the Practice Manager. We had to do this due to same problem. Receptionists very unhelpful and don't have the power to change the system. Practice manager can sort stuff like this out.

I think we just registered our son under his new name. I think that is probably not allowed but I have heard of hospitals sending things to birth parents by accident so it seemed easier to register his new name. But we must have explained to someone! I'd rather tell the doctor since they are actually treating my son.

The receptionist only needs to tell us when to go in, so he or she really doesn't need to know our business, IMHO.

Our surgery had them under known as, but our practice also serves a domestic violence shelter so is well used to being discreet about identities.
