Adoption Register

Does anyone have any experience of self referring to the Adoption Register? We've been approved for the second time since April and no news of any matches.

We've self referred and 'linked' us to a child that instantly appealed to both of us. Just wondering on timescales/when to chase..

Patience is so not my thing!

We found DD2 through the register, also self-referred and did all the chasing.

We did ask our SW to send a supporting email each time we registered interest.

There are different approaches taken re timescale etc depending on the level of interest they expect to see for a particular child, essentially if they believe they are hard to match or not. If lots of people have registered an interest, they close the profile and sift through the people to make a shortlist, if you are the only one to register an interest then I'd expect a quicker, individual response.

You might get a better response asking your SW to follow up, if that's possible? I don't see that you have anything to lose in chasing, if it's been more than two weeks or so.

We used link maker & with that you as adoptees have 2 weeks to respond as do the social workers at which point a reminder gets sent & a template message set up for you. So at least you know & aren't left waiting. Your SW will need to approve your profile though & then it's up to you whether you or they manage it for you.

thank you
Our SW has gone off grid at the moment - no reply to anything - although she has obviously approved our Adoption Register referral.

I dont think a holding email/text/phone call would be unreasonable but apparently I'm wrong Grin

I'll chase her again. Starting to feel like I'm hounding the poor woman. I know she's v busy but it's driving me insane.

You'd have thought I'd be used to the inefficiency by now, wouldnt you??
