Tracing International Birth Parents Advice?

HunieBuniesBack · 10/05/2007 21:14

I would very much like to try and trace more info with regard to birth parents who were born abroad.

Does anyone know whether there are agencies or forums which might assist or have useful advice? Are private dectectives (who specialise in adoptions) useful in this instance?

I would really like to try and obtain a birth certificate for the person in question. Can anyone help me to get started doing this?

TIA HunieBunie x

it very much depends on which country some countries are easier than others eg America. Your best best is to google "birthparent search" and the name of the country or sign up to one of the American adoption sites.

I think it might be worth contacting the Intercountry Adoption Centre which is in High Barnet (should come up on search) I heard they are doing some work on this at the moment.
There is also an International Social Services which may also be able to help.

It does of course depend on country, the law that exists there regarding adoption and the record keeping in agencies which may have been involved at the time.

Good Luck.

Your replies have been useful, I will take up the ideas and see where I get with my search. The country is a developing country so records may be difficult to obtain.

Thanks ladies, HunieBunie.
