I just wanted To say thank you to all you amazing mum’s that have become mums through love rather than birth.

Thank you for doing the job that I failed to do. Thank you for your compassion and understanding. Thank you for raising my son and tucking him in at night because I can’t and thank you for loving him as much as I do.

I’m sorry I failed and I’m sorry I can’t be there doing it but to my sons Mum- I am so glad and grateful that you are there for him. I will never be able to fully explain how much knowing that he is loved and safe means to me.

So today of all days I want to thank every adoptive parent. You are heroes.

I don;t have to think of DS's birth mum today as she isn;t in the UK (so not mothers day there).

Have you forgiven yourself for not being able to "Mother" him in the way you obviously believed he deserved? Because DS is happy with his life and whilst he would love nothing in life more than to meet his birth mohter he really wouldn't want her to be unhappy about thinking about him and feeling that she failed him. I think at 12 he genuinely thinks that she did the best she could at the time and is content with that idea.

I hope you don't mind me saying that because I'm sure it can't be an easy day for you and I wouldn't like to make it harder.

Reading this post made me cry. What a wonderful thing to say.

kew I don’t mind at all. I’ve come to accept that not contesting the adoption order was me being a parent, and putting my sons needs first- as heart breaking as that was. I’ve come to forgive myself, I just hope one day my son will also be able to forgive me. I’ve also done a lot of counselling to understand my journey to that point and prevent it ever happening again.

I have had a peaceful day. Today’s like these are always going to be hard, I’m grieving for my own Mum who passed away 2 weeks after the placement order was granted. And I’m grieving for the son I wasn’t able to parent and the 2 babies I miscarried before him.

Having said that it’s days like today that remind me how far I have come, and how blessed me and my son are.

My mum died on New Years day this year so I can understand. We are all blesssed - I just wish it were possible for DS to meet his birth mother. I hope you have adoptive parents who deserve you - I know it's impossible to tell with the problems you've had with contact. We can all only hope that the unseen others in the triangle are getting along well.

My children choose flowers for their birth mothers in Russia and they are on display in the living room next to my flowers.
I am so grateful to those two women.

I hope one day I can be as kind about this day as you are. However, right now its just a painful nightmare. Even though like you I didnt contest the adoption its still painful.

It will always help. Time doesn’t heal but it does teach you how to live with it
