Manic when ill

My daughter who’s nearly 2 has a chest infection but instead of it wiping her out she is completely manic and hasn’t sat still all day. She hadn’t napped either even when I took her out in the car. Is anyone’s else’s child like this when they are ill? Thank you Smile

Oh god yeah. My two are evil buggers when ill/tired/out of routine. It got a bit easier as DD1 reached 4. They are also ill most of the bloody winter.

It's great having kids isn't it?

If she has been prescribed antibiotics and/or calpol, it may be that, as there is sugar and all sorts in medicine I think, and some children are more sensitive to it than others. It is worth calling 111 if you are worried.

Has she got amoxicillin? That made my daughter wild!

Twogirlsandme · 16/01/2018 19:22

Was going to say it might be the medication.
Depending on circumstances It could also be implicit memories of not being looked after properly when ill in birth family?

Mine is, she seems to be be fuelled on pure adrenaline when ill. Makes for a nightmare few days as she’s knackered and on full belt. She’s really hyperactive at the best of times Grin

My DS is like that on calpol, I use infant ibuprofen with him and he's much calmer

user1471555041 · 16/01/2018 22:08

I think your right it may be the medication she has been having Calpol and the antibiotics are amoxicillin Grin. She’s finally asleep. I don’t know who’s more tired her or me. Roll on the spring!

Catches me out every single bloody time. I pull my hair out wondering why the hell hes so wound up then a few days in the cold or the ear/throat infection lands.
