I haven't had many insensitive comments about adoption. I bet its not much more than one a year, on average. Today I went to my fabulous, supportive agency to speak at adopter training and got 3:

-'are your children siblings' from the SW leading the course.

• two questions about their 'real parents'.

No real point to the thread; not upset, just surprised.

What stupid dicks. I hope you set them straight.

Me: Obviously they are siblings, I think you mean genetic siblings.

I wouldn't normally be so rude, but she was a bloody SW and had already been a bit presumptive about their history, especially after meeting someone three minutes earlier. Its uncharacteristic because every member of staff is usually incredibly supportive and professional.

Deadpan stare.................... birth parents. I'm immediately smiley again afterwards (it's just a genuine mistake) but I don't let that one go.

My 2 girls both Down Syndrome and now roughly same size were asked by an HCP at last appointment are you twins.......one is black and the other white. I left them to explain.
