Adoption gift

Hi all, my nephew's adoption has all gone through and the celebration hearing is soon. I want to get something nice for my sister and my nephew so I thought I would ask for any ideas on here. something for my sister and something to symbolise my children becoming 'official cousins' would be nice. Thanks for any ideas

That's a lovely idea. How about a photo in a frame or on a canvas of the cousins all together...one for your nephews room and one for your kids rooms? Or perhaps a voucher towards a 'whole family' photo shoot with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, pets etc to stake your nephew's place in the family and to go on everyone's matelpiece/living room wall? Xx

I think a photo is a lovely idea. We have one (just a snap) of our DD with her cousins and we really treasure it because it really means family.

Depending on his age you could also consider a voucher for something fun they could do together like Peppa Pig world (don't know if that's his thing, just an example ). If she's a single adopter on adoption leave she might be shorter on money than usual.

Finally, you could also consider something just for her. A bottle of champagne, etc. It's such a bloody gruelling process sometimes, a grown up's treat is sometimes very welcome!

Not on the high street do a whole range of alternative family trees (posters, pictures, plates, cushions etc) that you can personalise for your particular family group. My mum bought one for me when I adopted DD which was a lovely gift and DD has in her room (it was really helpful in the early days and she'd enjoy pointing at all the people in the family - cousins were included- who loved her).

I second something nice for her as an adult too, particularly if she's a single adopter as its bloody knackering!! The loveliest thing one of my friends did was bring me a bunch of flowers shortly after DD arrived and said 'because all new mums deserve flowers'. Doesn't have to be a big gesture but that comment has meant a lot to me over the years

You know what - just celebrating with them would be gift enough. Not all families do. Photo is great idea. Or a children's book on adoption - they're not cheap.

Having Adopted a few over the years, the most memorable gifts we received were Garden shrubs / tree's, Now always in bloom as are the children grow as they grow, memory's all the time.
Keep them smallish easier too dig up if they move house as we did.

Thanks for all the replies. Some lovely ideas to consider. I think a photo would be a good one, I took a nice one of them this weekend so that could be a start. Theme park voucher is a good idea as well and I definitely want to get something for my sister too. It's like he has always been here anyway now but it will be nice for it to be all official

We had ours in feb. We got lots of photo frames so i would avoid that one personally though a nice canvas would be lovely.
Someone got us one of those willowtree figures . It is an angel holding a little childs hands and helping them to walk. It is called gaurdian angel. That was a v thoughtful gift i feel.
I absolutely love it and it has pride of place on my mantlepiece. They do lots of different ones of parents with kids and babies so might be a good idea.
