Induction week advice

To all you adoptees out there on
Your induction week did the foster carers on the first day let you observe her or just hand your little one over and give you advice.

I have been advised to probably let them observe but as they've already got a child I thought a bit of both would be the best.. as if it was me I'd be wanting
To hug her smell her and hold her lots... any advice on what worked best for yous....

We just had the kids thrown at us - the FCs also had babies to look after. I don't think it helped, the kids felt a bit rejected, we were on the FC house but had no clue as to boundaries etc, and we only saw the FC serve them one meal all week! Only thing we were really shown was bath and bedtime, which, 4 months in, is the only thing we have no issues with. Coincidence?!

Oh I don't want her to feel rejected believe me.
And il be doing more that that.

I Think it's best to let them play with LO but stay around so LO is reassured. So be in the next room,doing " something" .

I'd go easy on the advice unless they ask for it, what you mean as helpful can make them feel nervous and unsure. Hopefully they are not completely incompetent with babies / children if they have raised on alrdeady and have been approved

You are so thoughtful to ask BTW and hope it all goes smooothy and not too hard on you and your family.

Our FC was amazing a d I am so grateful for the effort she put in. She seemed to know how much to be there to reassure LO but gradually withdrew as the days went on. One of the best things she did was feed us and LO together, brilliant bonding time and also meant we didn't worry about food. She just pottered about while we had that lovely time. She quite quickly had us doing the personal care stuff to.
Good luck. Think its fab that you have asked and I hope the bubba moves on to their forever family as smoothly as possible.

I think it's not so much advice they need as information. If you start from the off with - i'm telling you her routine now - don't worry about apologising for repeating, teaching an old dog new tricks etc etc again.
I found it hard that all the info was verbal to be honest - with no time to write anything down. Lots of info about which clothes were bought by who and i didn't retain it.

Our FC stayed for most of the first day which was only a 2 hour visit. WE sat around playing with her and she let us giver her a bottle.
Next day we were there from lunch and she let us do meals and nappy changes (we already have a child too) and encouraged us to take her out in her buggy. She advised us on routine things such as bottle times and nap times and walked us through bath and bed but pretty much left us to it. It was just right for us. Having a 4 year old we didn't need to be shown the basics but we did need to hear her routine and comforts. We also needed time to feel like parents and I think spending time alone with her with FC nearby was really important so that when she suddenly was alone in our house, it wasn't a shock to anyone.
