Wanting to adopt

I know someone who three beautiful girls

1. 4 and 2 she would love to adopt a son aged between newborn to 18 months

Is this possible? Or does there have to be a age gap? Can someone explain the process? How long it takes? Costs?

Depending on the local authority or voluntary agency they normally ask for at least a 2 year gap between youngest birth child and adoptive child. It can take at least a year to go through approval and then longer to be matched to a gender specific baby or toddler. He would need his own bedroom and the approval process is not a walk in the park.
All that said if they started now then by the time they could be approved then it might work.

She will not be able to adopt a newborn unless she does "foster to adopt" but that comes with uncertainty. I tried 6-8 agencies who all told me to ring back because our son was only 3 and with the age restrictions mentioned above, we would struggle to be matched. In the end we went an hour away to find an agency and within a year DD was with us.
To be honest though. Wanting a boy is not a great reason for adopting.

If this is about wanting a boy they won't be able to. No agency is going to assess them on that basis. Adoption is about what is best for the child, not what parents want in order to complete their families.

No its not about just wanting a boy ... thats just silly
She wants to adopt a baby to be able to provide a baby with a loving family and good happy life
Boy - doesn't mean that child wont be loved and cared for.
Her daughters have always wanted a brother so it would be a lovely way to adopt a little boy as preference main thing is giving a child thats in need a good upbringing a happy caring loving home which she has to provide

There are many children who can't find a " loving family and good happy life " because they are school age and / or have special needs.

So as your friend's motivation is altruistic and not about the sex of the baby, she should wait until her children are older and adopt one of these hard to place children.

There are plenty other people waiting to adopt a NT baby aged 0-18 months, there's no shortage of " happy caring loving homes" for them.
