Help Quickly Please - Christmas Concert

Sooo...DD's concert is this week. It was a bit of a disaster last year and she was pretty much shoved in a corner of the stage behind the teachers. At the time I spoke to the Head about it not being ideal and also subsequently the LA about connected issues around filming and social media. I was promised changes. I have raised it over the course of the year.

I asked last week what the plan was for this year and was met by blank looks. They plan to do the same again, stick her in a costume and we are just supposed to hope for the best, or we keep her home.

They say they've been advised by the LA that it's a big deal for parents & they don't want to be seen to be killjoys. They have also been advised that they have no right to stop people filming or posting on social media.

DD is so excited about the concert.

Her position is not the riskiest on here, but it's by no means risk free.

Can anyone advise if parents can be told not to film, or if there's any come back if they film and then post on social media after being asked not to?

Careful with your head rather Grin

Can we help you draft?

I'll go first -

'Dear fuckwits...'

Oh, for a "like" button Grin

I have been on the gin because I broke a tooth today (not from slamming head on desk, promise) and the pain/costs of fixing have not made for a jolly me. I've also just downloaded a free sample of "bubble wrapped children" about adoption and social media. Is it any good? (By the way, googling "bubble-wrapped children"...weird. Who the hell titled that??)

Anyway, next sentence of our picture book (this is like a game of consequences) - "engage your brain and try to imagine for one second that not every parent is Mrs fucking Doubtfire".

.....If you are looking for gossip regarding my child I can tell you I don't have any for you, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you safeguard my child that'll be the end of it.

GirlsWhoWearGlasses · 13/12/2016 21:48

Bless you all Flowers It's been a lousy day, it is so disempowering and frustrating to be struggling to do something as basic as keep your child safe. You've all made me feel so much better.

I am going to have a trawl around adoption uk etc to see if I can find some kind of idiots guide, as that is clearly what's necessary, but I really needed to hear that I am not some paranoid over-anxious mumfreak who can't bear for her precious flower to have her soul sucked out through the medium of Facebook.

It's mostly about kids looking for parents, but there's a bit about parents looking for kids. (Complete with some salacious detail that might serve to remind why our kids are now our kids...)

Those articles are good. The guardian one probably has the right level of gossipy interest for your HT girls

conserveisposhforjam · 13/12/2016 22:25

And precious mumfreak is the last thing you are.

MN has got so fucking intolerant of people asking others to accommodate their children of late. If I see one more reference to 'special snowflakes' I might have to start some kind of campaign. Why do we hate kids all of a sudden?

tldr · 14/12/2016 00:28

That HuffPo article Sad

If be scared on the desert island - you'd all judge my parenting Grin

conserveisposhforjam · 14/12/2016 17:56

I'm judging it from here... Is that the TV you have on there?

MintyLizzy9 · 14/12/2016 18:07

yes it will be nice to have someone worse than me there.....tis the main reason I suggested it Grin

I'll have you know I've done Pinterest Christmas toddler crafts today and let him watch 15 episodes of Peppa Pig and just eat yogurt and fruit purée for dinner so I'm kinda the perfect mum Xmas Wink

We've been 'tidying'. I'm surprised you didn't hear the shouting.

UPDATE - Even if the thread has moved on a bit - Victory!

I had a loooong phone conversation with the Head last night. She thought about it overnight, and today, a v strong no photos announcement, time for individual photos, people who did get out their phones being asked firmly to put them away AND my little darling sang her wee heart out.

Next stop, policy change for the LA, it shouldn't be this hard in every school, every time.
