court timescales

Can anyone tell me (and I know everyone's experience will vary), how long did it take from submitting your paper work to court, to actually getting the adoption order and then a copy of the certificate?

Just shy of three months for court date, short Certs a few days later.

Like a billion years.

Actually I think it was eight months. But still. Bloody ridiculous.

Are you wanting to book a holiday? We had the whole ludicrous passport problem. They really need to sort that out.

Yes having a bit of a nightmare, I'm adopting my foster child and in February I asked the child's social worker for a passport to book a summer holiday. She said she would but never has done anything about it or even attempted to get hold of the birth certificate from birth parents despite me asking her repeatedly, now it's too late for summer holiday.
However I have a holiday booked in December, and we are about to submit the paperwork to court in next few weeks for the adoption order so I'm worried now I won't get a passport in time.
It's become apparent sw was obviously stalling til we go through court as then she wouldn't have to apply for the passport and I could do it myself. Is 6 months realistic for it all to go through?

If you call the court they may be able to give you an idea?

6 months should be fine providing birth parents don't contest.

It depends it really does. Ours was uncontested but the court had a big backlog.

You could call the court and ask how long they are taking but you might be better off pushing for the birth name passport and then reviewing once you see your court date. We put our court date back by a month so we could take the holiday.

Iirc you need to apply for the long cert before you can apply for the passport.

You do need the long cert, which you can get quickly enough once you apply (days rather than weeks).

But I have an idea that you can't get long form cert immediately. Not sure why I think that though (and I didn't try).

Thanks for the advice, I will try calling the court to see how long they are taking. I just have a feeling nothing much will happen July/August with it being holiday time and that will add further delays. I hope not but there is always one delay or another isn't there!

We put the application in late December. Court date was May and we received the new birth certificate last week. Our celebration hearing is Tuesday

There are delays yes but it seems your sw is being ridiculously half arsed about her responsibilities. She needs to get the passport done!
