Worried that we haven't heard anything yet..

Me and my partner are hoping to get a special guardianship order of my unborn nephew, he's due in 6 weeks. We and the family including my brother only found out my brothers now ex girlfriend is 7 months pregnant a few days after Christmas (4 weeks ago). Me and my partner said straight away if possible we'd take him in as ours. (Brothers ex gf can't keep the baby due to losing custody of her young son a few moths ago).

Social workers came and had a 30min interview/chat with me and my partner 2 weeks ago and took notes, said they'd do background checks etc and get back to us at the end of the week (they seen us on the mon). We phoned them on the fri and got told they'd phone us on the mon to arrange another appointment to see us but so far we haven't heard anything.

I messaged mum of the baby yest morning to make contact and tell her that we had a meeting but heard nothing since and she said she had a meeting with them that evening and would ask them to phone us but we still haven't heard anything.

Does having heard nothing mean it's a bad thing? We are getting worried as they said they wanted to rush the case as they don't have long with baby being due in a few weeks time. Xx

I have no idea if it means anything or not but I would say that a.sws are VERY unreliable with things like deadlines etc and that b.they will want this child to be placed with family if at all possible.

Do you know if there are other possible options for placement in the two families which they might be looking into? I'd try not to worry and maybe give them a call tomorrow just to check progress?

That's for the reply :-) as far as I'm aware there is only us in the family that can take the baby, mum of baby has told us that her solicitor is trying to push for us to have him as it's the only way mum will get contact. Hoping we hear soon, will phone them tomorrow if not heard today. X

I know it's hard, but IME social workers will ring you precisely when they need to and not when you need them to, or indeed when they promised to. It's very stressful! Best of luck to you.
