So once again this morning
Tells one side of the story
In covering 'forced adoption'
There really is no glory.
When social workers get the blame
For messing up again
And yet they cant publicly disclose
Why they cause birth parents pain.
The sad fact is some parents
Neglect and they abuse
And make the wrong decisions
And it's the children here who lose.
For if those parents don't get help
To change their troubled ways
Then they're a risk to children
And the children shouldn't stay.
Abusing kids is always wrong in our society
Ignoring this would give rise to another baby p.
Social workers need 6 months to
Decide and to assess
If birth parents are really fit
To meet their kids needs best.
And if by chance they don't agree
Then judges get their say
These decisions aren't made lightly
And that is the best way.
I have a little toddler girl
I love her totally
I love her no less because
She's from her birth mums tummy.
It's me she wants now when she cries
It's me who calms her fears
It's me who hugs her when she falls
And tells her 'mummy's here'.
I can't rewrite her history
She'll know of her birth family
But I can dispell the mystery
Of why she came to me.
Her parents knew no better
But they made the wrong decisions
They were given many chances
So history shouldn't be rewritten.
And so when I hear TV tells inaccurate accounts
Of adoption stories then it makes me want to shout
If my girl ever went back to her birth mum and dad
I'd fear for her safety until i'd likely go quite mad.
She isn't mine she isn't theirs she's ours now don't you see
She came from birth mums tummy, but she knows me as mummy.
And so this morning please start to
