Adoption

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on adoption.

What is the adoption court actually like?

We've got our court date coming up (husband adopting my son)

I keep imaging it like a criminal court where the judge and jury will be really horrible to us, trial us and make us fight for their agreement on the adoption!

All assessments have been fantastic.

Please reassure me, or at least, tell me what it's really like

Our LO's adoption order wasn't contested, so we didn't need to attend the decision making bit, we just went to the celebration hearing. For practical reasons we chose to go through a local court which was basically a 1960s concrete block with a few large coats of arms hanging around - not quite as picturesque as eg the High Courts!

My LA use the family court which when I attended for the placement hearing for my birth son was a big square table with a district judge, the LAs legal rep, social worker, my legal rep and a minute taker. I'm told the AO hearing will be of similar format
