Good luck good luck good luck! Flowers

Can't wait to hear how you get on Smile

Devora · 04/08/2015 08:01

My dp still talks about her excitement on the first day of introductions, she says she just wanted to grab dd and run away.

I remember just feeling completely numb, overwhelmed and tired.

Anything can happen, so just take care of yourself and remember this is just the start. You are at the start of a big love affair, but it won't necessarily be love at first sight. All will be fine Smile

Good luck!!Smile

StaceyAndTracey · 04/08/2015 08:18

How wonderful ! Devora speaks wisely

Be good to yourselves , it's very tiring . Eat well, try to sleep and get a lite exercise - even just a walk once you come home . Helps de stress and process everything

be as nice as you can to the foster carers , usually they are good and very understanding . A good one can help the process go smoothly

StaceyAndTracey · 04/08/2015 08:20

Or even a little exercise . Although lite is good too

slkk · 04/08/2015 09:56

Good luck! Hope all goes smoothly.

Kewcumber · 04/08/2015 10:11

Good luck! It's a very tiring and emotional time. I second the comment about being as nice as you can to the foster carer, ours was brilliant!

GirlsWhoWearGlasses · 05/08/2015 07:00

Glad the first day went well. All the best for the next few days.

researchbookworm · 05/08/2015 20:47

Congratulations! Looks like we'll be joining you in a couple of weeks time...

researchbookworm · 05/08/2015 20:48

(Not literally!)

Tangerineandturquoise · 07/08/2015 19:18

How are you getting on Desmoulins? It is a roller coaster of a time. REST

Desmoulinsonatable · 08/08/2015 08:19

Grin Research, you'd be very welcome, the more the merrier! It's going well, we are tired, I'm not sleeping brilliantly, too much thinking, and we had to make a last min adjustment to the timetable due to DH's work. However, the LOs are amazing! They are funny and wilful and full of beans. Elder is shyer, likes us, is blowing hot and cold on me, checking I'm that I really mean it I think. The younger is a cannonball that looks at life and goes 'Bring it on Life, I'm coming for you!!!' It's going to be a helluva ride I think, never ever boring though! GrinWink Thank you all. Des

It's 11.15pm the night before our introductions start. Found this thread, and am making a note of all the advice. I am very excited, yet weirdly putting off going to bed because when I wake up I know that tomorrow will be the first day of the rest of my life. Not to over-dramatise the situation or anything.

Desmoulinsonatable · 15/11/2015 23:40

We are now 13 weeks into placement and all is pretty good! The Cubs are amazing and trying and tiring and loving and wonderful. It is utterly utterly a world turned upside down. Good luck Ethel! Take care, lots of sleep, lots of water! ThanksThanks

Glad to hear things are going well, des.
Ethel, you can't over dramatize it! It's difficult to have a more dramatic time! Good luck and keep in touch.

Italiangreyhound · 16/11/2015 18:12

Desmoulinsonatable glad things are going well.

NigelLikesSalad · 16/11/2015 18:13

Hope today went well Ethel. DH and I spent the whole day grinning from ear to ear after our first day but hardly speaking to each other, it was like being in some surreal other universe. It's so strange being a 'mummy' then leaving your child with someone else! It was an amazing day though, one ill never forget and I cry every time I think about it. :) hope tomorrow is famtastic

EtheltheFrog15 · 17/11/2015 18:34

Thanks for the advice. Devora I totally get how you felt. The first meeting went well but even DH said in his sleep 'what have we done?!'. I'm not sure you can really prepare for the enormity of it all. Day two went well, and I see how the better we get to know the child the more confident we will feel. It's a long road ahead, but despite the wobble I think it's the right road! Might need to ask for a few directions, though.

Kr1stina · 17/11/2015 22:22

Glad to hear it's going ok. I know it's all a bit surreal , you can feel like actors in a play saying the right things but feeling a bit fake. Don't worry, that's normal .

TBH I think that very few people feel some great rush of love , most people just feel relieved that they have got this far , anxious that it might go wrong and a bit tired and shell shocked, mixed with excitement and " what then heck have we got ourselves into " .

Remember Kews great advice of " fake it til you make it " Grin
