Literally.

My DD has recently turned 16, and she was placed age 8. She doesn't find school, or organisation, or thinking for herself easy.

But:

She is currently in Spain at a Spanish language international summer camp.
She knew no one else going.
She had to negotiate Heathrow and Madrid airports on her own.

She is missing us, but making friends exploring the town and having fun.

We are so proud of her. She is a
She really tries to make the most of every opportunity we give her.

Amazing! What a star indeed. I would be so proud of my 16 year old son/daughter if they did that - and even more so if they were adopted.

If I thought my DS (almost 8, placed a year), could do this aged 16, I'd be over the moon.

Thank you all, we are very proud of her.

We are now on day 5 out of 21. List of illnesses/problems reported so far:

• aching shoulder
• burnt feet (from stepping on hot paving stones with no shoes)
• blue legs (she thought allergic reaction, turned out to be staining from something she was sitting on, and washing properly solved it!)
• stinging tummy (tripped by pool and did bellyflop into it)
• nosebleed
• food poisoning (she thinks, from fish eaten last night)
• feet being eaten by something (! - I have requested pictures, she says not just peeling from being burnt)

This, however, is pretty much par for the course.
I think it is unlikely her feet are being eaten, but you never know.

kew Well remembered about DD2. She has blossomed since coming back from her residential, and I am now much less worried about year 6.

DD1 has always been a mix between outward social confidence whilst being in need of reassurance (which is where some of the medical issues stem from). The trouble is, I get quite used to most of the chopping-finger-offs actually being very-slight-scratch that I can occasionally miss more serious things. The dyspraxia really doesn't help as her brain often doesn't know where different parts of her body are so she is prone to bumps, trips, cuts etc.

She's not fully recovered from the fish.
The staff have been nagging her to eat and made her eat a full meal last night so she feels poorly again today. I've told her now to eat nothing today to give her 24hrs to help kill off any bug.

And I've rung and spoken to them too and said to stop being cross and be more sympathetic. I can understand they are worried but she needs time to get the bug out of her system.

She is enjoying herself despite poorly stomach though. She wants to stay and not come home.

Poor DD, what rotten luck to get food poisoning, I hope she feels better soon. It's great that she is enjoying it and wants to stay though. You did a good job getting her to this stage of independence and must be very proud of her.

She is feeling a lot better today ...

... after having an hour on an IV something drip yesterday morning ...

I got as far as flights booked and at the airport, but didn't travel.

Just the IV, which much have terrified her, made her feel a whole lot better, and today she has been able to eat properly, and has been out on a sight seeing trip. I am recovering with and .

Please can the next 10 days go well!
