We are planning to move to Reading. Can anybody tell me where the nice areas are? Thanks a lot

Caversham is the nice part of Reading, according to some friends who live there

Caversham is a nice part of Reading as is the University area. Depends what you are looking for really in terms of what is "nice". Caversham is close enough to town, near the river for walks and has a little centre. From my own personal point of view I'd steer away from the Oxford Road and Witley and perhaps parts of Cemetery Junction.....
Good Luck !

Depends how close you want to be and what you mean by nice. Some of the surrounding towns are lovely and within easy driving distance/ short train ride e.g Wokingham, Hurst etc. Agree with newmum36 - probably best to avoid Whitley.

Most parts of Tilehurst are absolutely lovely, there's some well sought after schools and its a great area for families with lots going on. Oh yes, and some brilliant Health Visitors!

I agree with the previous replies. Reading town centre has very few residential places, those that are there are mainly flats in blocks. I would not recommend Whitley or the Oxford Road. You are probably better off going to one of the smaller towns on the outskirts. Woodley, Lower Earley, Sonning and Caversham Heights all very nice.

My sil lives in purley-on-thames which is lovely, you can walk along the river and catch a boat into pangbourne.
