Hello,
Following on from my post the other week, im wondering when the best time will be to start the adoption process. We have 2 bc, the youngest is 2 so im wondering whether its best to start the process now and then be on the waiting for a 0-1 child as they do not come up very often or whether to wait till ds turns 3 and then start? Iv tried to ask LA this question but the duty adoption worker didnt really provide an answer? We are booked to go to an information evening in June but was just looking for some more insight before then...any help greatly appreciated xx

DH and I had to get our DBS and medical checks updated as we weren't placed with a child within a year of having them done.

If you want my honest answer - I would say wait. I also think - even if you are prepared for a wait - you are quite unlikely to get a 0-12 months child because of the "competition" (unless you are looking at a SN child too). Much more likely a child 0-2 or even 0-3. And whilst having birth children may be seen as a "plus" (and definitely does carry some big advantages) it will also add to your risk profile - on the basis that not only do you and your partner have to be happy with the adoption/link/bond with the child etc but also your 2 biological children (whereas people with no children have a lower risk profile that the adoption will break down because the SWs don't have to factor in the other children in the family).

If you don't mind refreshing your checks and are prepared that nothin might happen for 2 years - then by all means go for it. I would have thought at the info evening you will get more guidance.

Good luck on your journey.
