why did you all decide to adopt?

i have a birth child via IVF and we decided to adopt because we want more children/to be parents again. i find it really hard when friends say things like "what your doing is so good" "your so brave" etc. why can't people just accept i want to be a mum again.

i'm sure i'm not alone but i sure feel it right now. :(

so we should be grateful for being parents at all

Ha ha - yes the hierarchy of parents!

no-one has ever told me that I'm amazing or wonderful for adopting - I'm not sure when you adopted but you might want to hold fire on that... I was called "worthy" about 6 months ago. 8+ years after adopting!

My answer to 'why adopt?' is quite simply and selfishly, because we really wanted to.
We were young, had two young BC, no fertility issues, just felt adoption was right for us. I get people assume/ ask me whether I adopted because I had traumatic births (no, two fairly easy births), whether my partner or I were adopted (no), whether we are 'moral people'(eg. 'world's population is too big' (absolutely not! - unfortunately I don't think too much about this).
We used to get the ' you're so brave!' statement a lot in the beginning (we replied 'we're so lucky'), but once the initial "surprise" (for want of a better word) died down, we rarely hear this now. Instead I get a lot of the, 'you look sooo tired!'

Couldn't say better than what my partner says when asked why we chose to adopt.
" why not ? we have one happy child who we love very much and we want more children and so why not give a family to a child who doesnt have one yet ."
Not what everyone would say but i agree xx
