Applying to adopt...

Hello there,

Myself and my husband attended an information evening a couple of months back and as we were in the process of moving house were planning on applying to adopt at the end of November. As it now turns out, I have to have a minor operation and am on the waiting list which is 2-3 months long and I will have to have 2 weeks off work.

My question is- do we wait until I've had my operation and have recovered or do we apply at the end of November like we planned? We don't really want to wait but will do want to do what's for the best.

If you feel you're ready, I would apply. You can always have a pause when your surgery takes place, and resume again once you're recovered. It's possible your LA will advise you differently, but in any case, just be honest with them and I'm sure you'll be able to make a plan together. Two weeks of "time out" is not long at all, especially in the context of all the waiting that is part of the assessment and matching processes! Very good luck for your op, and for your application Smile

I had minor surgery in the middle of the process and again (with a much longer recovery) shortly after approval. It didn't really delay us and our child was placed 13 months, after our original application.

Start the process now and just be open about anything you have going on. Good luck.

Thank you all.

I'm just worried that it will go against us. There's a chance I will have to have another operation in a year or so. It's not anything life threatening and other than this problem I am healthy with no other problems
