Hi I'm a v paranoid regular who would just hate to be outed by a simple question :)

I have a feeling LAC medicals are done by a community paediatrician rather than a GP, but may be wrong. However I can't see any reason why they can't refer your DD to the local paeds instead. My DD was, but this was for other reasons than a LAC medical (she never had one of those in the time between placement and adoption order)

It varies a bit buts was done at local GP not in placing LA

floatyjosmum · 24/09/2014 02:58

Lac medicals can be done by the health visitor and should be every 6 months for a little one.
If they ask for an adoption medical (which they don't need as she is already placed) then this would be done by a paediatrician from the la that placed her.

We did our LAC medical in the original placing LA, although I did have to request they move the location as the BM was still visiting where they originally suggested!!

Health visitor came to my house.

Can you ask your social worker?

mrsballack · 24/09/2014 14:29

We had a nurse from our approving LA come to our house for ours. We are only about 30 mins away from them though.

RhinosAreFatUnicorns · 24/09/2014 19:29

Health Visitor from our local surgery did ours at our house.

LACmedical · 24/09/2014 20:03

They come to your house?! And an hv can do them? And I've been told to go traipsing around the bloody country? With dd.

Why do I always need mn to tell me these things? Why can't sws realise that no-one would travel for 3hrs with a one yo if they didn't have to?

We went to see the consultant paediatrician at our local hospital.

fasparent · 24/09/2014 21:03

Courts will only recognise a Official Adoption Medical by LA Paediatric Doctor.
Not appropriate for HW or other's under qualified too do these , who do not have the higher professional experience, there could be legal implication later if legal legislation procedure are not followed. Am referring too Adoption in the main. Foster Children have the right too refuse LAC Medicals if they wish, these presume are Foster care medicals you are referring too.

Threesocksnohairbrush · 25/09/2014 09:36

Hi we had them done locally for both of ours. GP for DC1 and I think HV for DC2.
If there are any complex medical concerns with your DD then it might be worth getting the expertise of the community paediatrician who has (hopefully) seen her before and knows the local health service.
If she is a well baby then id push to have it done locally - although that said in this pre adoption stage sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and do it the LAs way (bitter experience!)

floatyjosmum · 25/09/2014 22:58

Adoption medicals are done pre panel. They don't usually do a lac medical as well as its exactly the same paperwork but with a different heading! !
Once placed they need a lac medical which for under 5s is every 6 months and over 5 every year.
