CBeebies birthdays

Can anyone see any security issues with having my son's birthday mentioned on CBeebies birthdays?

Either an announcement or a card?

My issue is that as he has a slightly unusual name, and so does my dd then I can't really include his name and her name as well. Or can I? Birth parents, are they likely to be watching on his birthday? They don't know my dd's name. Would they put two and two together?

Thoughts, please?

Thanks.

Even if they did would it say anything that they don't already know; "and happy xth bday to mini greyhound!"

(Happy birthday mini greyhound!)

Thanks so much.

Not really thinking for this year as he has already had his birthday but thinking for next year already!

DD really really wanted her birthday on CBeebies this year. We fobbed her off somehow - forget what! - but we thought it might seem a bit mean to her birth family (and inconsistent) when we are so strict about them having access to a photo of her each year.

He's asking but I feel it is probably not a great idea.

He asks for a lot of things but then forgets!

As Hendricks says, it is not telling them something they do not already know ie it is his birthday and he is now with a new family who are celebrating that event with him. Some might say it is insensitive towards the birth family (though personally I would disagree) to do this but at the end of the day he is your son and if you want to do this I can see no issue at all. You would not be doing it to rub it in the noses of the birth family that you have adopted their son; you would be doing it so that your son has something extra nice on his birthday that you know he would love.

There is nothing in how they do the announcements which identifies where a particular child lives. You could always have it read 'Happy birthday mini-greyhound with love from mummy, daddy and big sister' without including her name (I would do it this way personally as 2 unusual names does potentially make you a teeny bit more identifiable). If by next year he still wants to do this I could see no practical 'security' reason not to, and no reason why you should avoid doing it because of the birth family.

I wouldn't, no.
Birth parents might not be watching but other birth friends and family might be.

Have you had a look at the cbeebies website? There is an option where you put in your child's details and choose favourite programmes etc and they create an online video message which looks just like it was on the show. I told my daughter that I'd recorded it, had it all set up and showed her. Job done and she was happy. Might help?

Italiangreyhound · 24/08/2014 15:10

Wow makesomenoise that sounds great could you give me a link to it, please?

Have sent a pm but it is under the cbeebies birthday page as well. Hope it helps!

Only other suggestion here would be if you havee a pet name/nickname that you use with him, could you use that instead?

AngelsWithSilverWings · 26/08/2014 10:40

I never sent them in for that reason. DSs name was at the time quite unusual ( although becoming much more popular now)

He used to ask when he would have his card on cbeebies so I did the birthday card video on the cbeebies site instead. He loved it!

I was also told by someone who apparently knew someone who works for the BBC that most of the kids whose cards are read out are related to BBC staff! ( I've no idea if that is true!)
