Bbc drama in the club

Mini rant coming up. I watched the new bbc drama "in the club" last night and felt appalled at the portrayal of the expectant mums drinking and going to the pub etc. Given what we now know the effects of alcohol can be I thought it wholly irresponsible. There was nothing in the program to even hint at the problems alcohol can cause in pregnancy. I can't help wondering how many pregnant women may have watched this and seen it as a green light not to worry about it.

I didn't get that impression at all. I thought that the drinker had been questioned about her drinking at least twice and unfortunately there does seem to be a lot of mothers who do still drink more than than is recommended. It's also hard for a lot of mothers to understand. With DC I could have the odd drink. Then when I was 3 months pg with dc2 the advice changed. Also the nhs, nice and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists all give slightly different advice.

I'm sure the programme won't encourage expectant mums to drink anymore that it will encourage the dads to rob a bank Smile

I got the impression that the drinking was being highlighted as an issue, a mum who had drunk before, so it seemed to be one of a whole host of 'issues' that were being highlighted in a very full initial episode.

They missed out one at the start (of the things to avoid)!!!

Quote "As for cheaper farmed salmon, a Cornell study recommended eating it no more than three times a year, and pregnant women may want to avoid it completely."

Not that I think pregnant women will be flooding to the boards of mumsnet adoption for advice but I was just curious that one got missed off!

Maybe it was me as I just thought it made the cursory "you shouldn't be having that" but then went on to drink and nobody seemed bothered about it.
Yes the farmed salmon is horrendous! Having relatives who've worked on the fish farms I certainly won't touch the stuff.

I think it's obvious she's going to have a drink problem and this will be part of her story. It was mentioned at least twice .
