I'm about to vanish for a couple weeks (don't know whether there'll be wifi at the caravan park), we leave tomorrow afternoon to catch a late ferry

So of course I left the packing till the day before....where have all the socks gone??!

And of course DD2 has vanished off to mums and isn't here to pack her stuff I phoned her, and yes, of course she wants to come on holiday and "I HATE packing"(!) and guess what, mum wants her to spend a few days with her. "oh yeah" she goes when I point out that leaving tomorrow and spending a few days with mum are incompatible. I said I want her to come home now and mum will still be there in 2 weeks but our holiday won't be. I bet a huge amount mummy will try and stop her leaving because she only cares about what SHE wants

Is it a good idea to go there myself to pick her up?

I am not sure if it is a good idea but I think I might do it, with the biggest smile on my face ever and maybe some chocolates to share!

Then get her away from bm's clutches and off to a holiday.

As you say bm will be there when you are back.

Be nice, you are her mum, you know what she needs, we all need a holiday sometimes!

Oh Lilka. I think if it was my dd I would phone her and tell her I'm coming to pick her up in 30 min, she must please be ready.

I would ring or text her and say I'm on my way to collect you. Be ready in ten minutes.
She will probably hate you for it but she will hate you whatever you do, so.....

Do your blood pressure a favour, pick her up. And have a wonderful holiday! Xx

I did phone her and said 'picking you up in 20 minutes, be ready please' and then got mum on the phone and told her the same. There followed 15 minutes 'conversation' at the house where I had to convince mum to tell DD it was fine for her to go, because DD didn't want to walk out without permission. I managed to convince her to relent and wish DD a nice time after I pointed out how we couldn't go away without DD and DS would be very devastated and very angry if we couldn't go at all. Also DD promised to bring a present back for her. The whole thing was really awkward and uncomfortable. We were both trying to be polite and everything but it was strained. I know it could be much worse and at least we can talk, and mum doesn't hate me.

DD was pleased to leave because she wants to go away and she hates awkward situations, but of course she's not happy with me for turning up and partly causing the situation. Sulking, chucking clothes around and refusing to talk to me right now.

However, never mind. She's here and we're going, so phew!

Thanks everyone I hope we have a good time too. Hopefully the worst bit will be the long drive. "Are we there yet, how long left, I want to get out, oh my God are we there yet, change the music! I NEED THE LOO", ooh if I hit mums headrest or DS repeatedly, or start yelling, it's really amusing. I'm bored but ooh look at that gear stick/handbrake what happens if I try and move it?! I'm not wearing my seatbelt any more, you can't make me! Etc. Sure people here are familiar with long car journey issues!!

The socks haven't appeared yet though

Have a lovely holiday and hope you can chill out after the journey, sounds like it has the potential to be slightly stressful well done for bringing dd home tonight without too much upset fgs don't forget to bring back the present

At least you get to pack suitable clothes if she won't pack.
