6 weeks ago AD had a pre-placement medical putting her speech at ten months delayed.

We saw the speech and language therapist today, and after an hour of lots of games and questions, said she was happy to sign her off as having age-appropriate language and not needing further support!

I assume "age appropriate" means "copies everything and never shuts up"?!!

Wow, that's amazing progress, sounds like she must have settled in really well!

Don't get me wrong - we're having a hard time with loads of other things, so I'm celebrating this bit of today

I took to recording these kinds of things in a little book to look back at when we were having a bad day and remind myself how far we'd come

It is amazing how quickly our little ones come on once they are home.

Well done Polka. That is amazing. My DS was said to be about 10 months delayed (we are waiting for therapy and have been for 4 months now) and I think he might have caught up a bit but definitely not the full amount.

It's not me that's done it, it's her . I think it was all in there bursting to come out, but she was waiting for someone to talk to her rather than near her. We still have some games and exercises to do, but I am much more relaxed about it now and have more faith that she's getting there in her own time.

Hels I have to say the medical care and attention during early years and foster care has been very diligent, and everyone has made efforts to keep that continuity. I hope you get your speech and language therapy for your little one soon. I bet he's made more progress than you think though, through having your time and attention.

Definitely a new notebook is in order.... Get yourself to paperchase pronto.

And YES it is your doing, you have listened to her, you have talked to her and given her the opportunity to talk.
DD1 was very similar, she didn't talk or eat when she came home, we were told we would always have difficulties. She was talking nineteen to the dozen and eating us out of house and home within a few months of being home.
