Hello,
I am a single professional woman who is just starting out in the adoption process. I was wondering if there are any other single adopters out there and whether they decided on a domestic (UK) adoption or an international adoption.

I am worried about adoption through LEA due to some biased remarks I have heard from SW, but I am still interested in this. I have also looked at Ukriane, Guatemala, Russia, China and Kazakhstan.

Anyways, I would love to hear what your experience was, the process etc.

thank you
kate

Hi, there is a yahoo single adopters group though it is used mostly to arrange meetings, I'm sure you could ask questions too, mostly they are intercountry adopters who adopted relavtively young children. I think you would need to log on to the Uk adoption boards to get experience of domestic adopters. Some singles have been very successful in domestic adoption of babies with the concurrent planning approach that Coram (amongst others) use but its a tricky process and not for the fainthearted.

In my experience councils either tend to be good or crap at intercountry adoption, doesn't seem to divide along single vs married lines. You need to be more compelling about your support network if you are single - really think it through and also your finances. Other than that I can't say I found the home study any more difficult than married friends, parts are easier single, parts easier married.
