I am sitting here wearing the Butt Head hat here while my little one throws balls at my head.

He is meant to be resting on the sofa as he had his chicken pox vaccine today.

I just wanted to say how brave he was. He was amazing! Grin

It was weird because doctor said any previous reactions to vaccinations etc and I had to explain I did not know. It feels sad saying that but have to be honest as he does not even have our name yet so need to explain situation.

I'm glad he's ok .

But are you sure it was the Chicken pox vaccine ? I thought They only gave it to children who are immune suppressed ( or are in close contact with someone who is ) .

The hat is lovely Disney.

Kristina yes, we had to pay. The doctor recommended it. If children have not had chicken pox (little one has not and is nearly 4) then they could get it when they are older and it might be harder for them if older (might not, but it is harder to stop them scratching when older, apparently).

Chicken pox can be quite a serious illness, although that is, thankfully very rare. In other countries they routinely vaccinate against it. I wonder if that will come in here.

My dd was vaccinated against Pneumococcal when she was little, I had just read about it. I had to pay and now that is standard I think and I also had her vaccinated against seasonal winter flu and I had to pay and now that will be standard for young kids too, I believe. So I won't be too surprised if chicken pox comes in as a routine one day! I wonder if it is just costs that stop them.

DS was very grown up and I was just so proud of him, he took it all in his stride. He really is the most amazing little boy! (But then again, I am biased!)

It is a cost benefit issue as far as I'm aware. The costs of chicken pox (in terms of serious illness not just monetary cost) are not high enough to justify wide spread vaccination.

I had to be tested for immunity when I was immunosupressed as I hadn't had chicken pox but was found to be immune anyway so didn't have to have the vaccine. The doctor told me at the time that many people in the UK who don't get chicken pox are probably naturally immune as the chicken pox virus is so widespread.

Not that thats relevant to anything but interesting that they tested me for immunity first before vaccinating.

Anyway good for little greyhound that he was brave.

Well done to your DS for being so brave Smile

I am a tad disappointed that it wasn't actually a picture of you wearing the hat though

Lilka · 03/07/2014 21:44

I know, there are times you really wish we didn't have to worry about security. I'd pay to see you actually in the hat (maybe like 10p) Grin

MerryInthechelseahotel · 03/07/2014 23:10

Me too! I would pay good money that I haven't got to see that italian Grin

MerryInthechelseahotel · 03/07/2014 23:11

10p is a bit steep though lilka
