Hi All, so DH and I are working through finances about what we will do in terms of work if we get approved. DH will be taking 9 months off work intially but after this ideally we would like to both work part time, with DH finsihing early enough to do the school pick up everyday. I will then do a term time contract which means that I get all the school holidays off ( and then will work 5 days a week the rest of the year). My question is, I have been working out what this will mean in terms of disposable income. Ideally we would like to save a little bit each month, and after some savings, petrol and all household bills what is a reasonable level of dispoabale income?

This would be for essentials like clothes, but also for activites as well as occasional eating out etc. My current budget is coming out at 320 a month for this plus 400 a month for food. We are hoping to adopt two siblings aged between 3-7, and wondered what you thoughts were on whether this a reaonable level. We have no children at the minute so we are like the blind leading the blind, but I really think if we can make it work the time off we will get will mean more than the extra cash.

Thoughts?

We have a budget of £600 a month compared to your £720 and we have one DD who is 20 months, so that sounds ok to me but not overgenerous.

At the moment we only do one paid activity a week, plus we got loads of hand me downs and new clothes as presents.

It's the shoes that are the real killers....

Just reread your post and realised we pay for petrol out of that £600, so maybe your budget is more generous than I'd originally thought. We do both have separate 'pocket money' for our own bits and pieces though.

Budget sounds fine unless you were planning on loads and loads of extracurricular stuff (presumably not for some time, in any case)
