Can you change the age range you are approved for after panel

After watching recent adoption programs DH and I have started to discuss the possibility that we may be a bit to narrow in the age range we are being approved for. We go to panel just after Easter and at this stage are being recommended for what we requested which is one or two children 0-4. However we are now thinking we should maybe look a little older as well. Its properly to late to change what we are being approved for now as all paperwork has already been submitted but if at a later stage we wanted to look at a 5 or 6 year old could we be considered? If so what would this involve? Thanks

I may be wrong but I thought the details of age-range etc given on the Para are more to guide matching/child's SWs as Panel now only approves yes/no for adoption?

PAR not Para...

We're approved for 2 x 0-6 yrs old... First profile we were sent was for a 7 and 4 year old... So I think it's as Choccy explains it.

Have a chat with your SW?

Tbh if you rock up to SS saying you want to adopt a 6 yo they'll get out the cake and bunting. Grin

They're always looking for people to adopt older children, there won't be a problem.

You should talk to your social worker. We were told only last year that what you are approved for is what you can be matched to. However, as the posters above have stated, this is probably not the case.

However, you should find out how your LA handles matching. You may find they are flexible at their end or are more strict, as seen on 15000 and Counting when the sw was scrubbing off adopters because of what they had put down.

It is always best to ask about these things instead if assuming based on the experience of others.
