Adoption with a child

Just a bit of background to us. We had IVF to have our first DD who is now 6. Adoption was always in our future but we wanted to wait until our DD was a bit older. We now feel that the time is right to explore but.... we are baffled with the sheer amount of information out there. We have booked to go on our LA adoption talk but I'm worrying - what if we don't choose the right agency?

Also I would love to hear of experiences from others who have adopted with a child around the same age as ours. She understands what adoption is (in a very basic sense) but would love to know at what stage you told your older child, how they responded etc.

Hi Lala - there are 2 threads about adopting with birth children on the second page of the adoption board. One is where the birth children were 5 and 8 (and your daughter will be about 7/8 by the time you get approved and then matched) - maybe check these out for the answers to some of the questions?
