Meeting medical advisor

Can anyone advise me what to do or say when we meet the medical advisor?

Does anyone want to confidentially PM me and say what they found helpful without giving away any details of their child?

Hi Italian , as we didn't go the conventional route however my friends said that they were presented the medical history and allowed the opportunity to ask questions . They were also allowed to check things with other independent advisers . It's also dependant upon whether there is anything of significance with your lo which u may want to check out further .

Hi Italian.. we weren't "conventional" either and therefore have a very good relationship with LO's paedetrician... also the benefit of knowing & living with the child beforehand... so we had 'real' experience of health issues...

Many people felt that on paper they couldn't take on 'LO' but in reality they (so far) have been minimal..

In our situation they can't give much prognosis as there is no great 'history' with other children/adults (medical advances etc only recent)... it is more for us the day to day issues that we may (or may not face)

No-one can give you guarantees with any child... I think the best real info you can get will be from the Foster Carer who has real experience of day to day life...

Nothing to worry about meeting the Medical Advisor. They'll go through the child's health and talk to you about anything that may need support going forwards. This is your chance to ask anything at all that has come up in your heads related to medical/body/mental health, anything at all. The medical advisor we met was lovely and put our minds at rest about a couple of things that DD may or may not inherit/current behaviour etc.

We weren't looking forward to it, but found it incredibly useful. Some of her advice was very good and showing real insight into the challenges our son will face.
It was unexpectedly touching that there was genuine emotion when she talked about her meetings with him and what he had been through.
I remember it as a really valuable and special meeting.

Our medical advisor was a bit rubbish unfortunately. He had no recollection of a fairly obvious medical condition and was quite vague about the prognosis for the things he had picked up on. Hopefully not typical though! As others have said, it's an opportunity to ask questions about what some things in the medical report mean, and what the impact is likely to be going forward (although they may not know in cases of - for example - suspected FAS or drug use).
