Any ideas as to how this money should be used? My little girl is in year 2 and doing really well academically, so I am not sure how the school will use this money.

My eldest needs support but my youngest is really bright. Going to ask the head how it's spent,will be interesting to see how they account for it.

According to one of my DD's school (my bold):
Pupil premium funding also includes children who have been adopted from care since 30th December 2005. From April 2014, schools in England can receive the Pupil Premium Plus for children adopted from care, or who left care under a Special Guardianship Order on or after 30 December 2005. Schools can also claim the Pupil Premium Plus for children who left care under a Residence Order on or after 14 October 1991.

I hadn't picked up on that bit before.

Ah, I just logged on to ask about this - we had the school newsletter yesterday, asking parents to let the school know, if they haven't already, if they have an adopted child.

I was wondering what the cash is spent on. Our dd is doing OK and is well settled at school.

This is the reply I've just had from the school secretary, in answer to my query above:

'It's not clear at the moment, the priorty is to register the children on the census, and guidance will be issued at a later date as to how the money can be spent. The money will probably be paid to schools in installments during the new financial year (2014-15).

That's all we know at the moment.

Not much time have supplied documents too two school's as children are with different LA's., OFSTEAD will monitor how money is spent has been brought too their attention so schools will be accountable, funds can be used too also train teachers in lots of subject areas also too the greater benefit of the individual and whole school. Can be used for special tutors, equipment, teaching aid's. inclusion's , after school activity's., supported holidays short breaks, all for the individual the list could be endless.
Suggest get it in and go from there . All parents will have the opportunity
of feed back and can address any concerns via OFSTEAD.

Just had our LAC review and this was discussed - after school sports, uniform, school trips, TA, play therapy, fees for afterschool club when I am back at work were all mentioned as possible uses of the money, since DD doesn't appear to need academic support. Interestingly the issue of pupil premium being sucked into general funds was touched on, and the independent review officer said she doesn't mind if it is used to benefit 20 children, as long as the LAC is one of them. So I'm not expecting to see it all go on DD by any means, from that.

I spoke to the head teacher and he said that DD progress against targets will be monitored and if she falls behind then the funds will be used to support her, for example, she might join a group of students who needed extra support with maths. I'm sure this would be the case if she wasn't adopted and didn't have the pupil premium.
As my little girl is doing just fine, I suspect the money will just go into the general pot. Whilst I am very grateful that my DD does not have additional needs at the moment, I would like her to benefit personally from the money, like having weekly piano lessons or something similar. Am I being selfish?

It is not only for academic support but for social.support too, so it may be used to pay a TA's wage who can provide small group work for helping social skills, pkssibly a lunch club as many adopted children find the whole unstructured lunch time ver stressful. Fortunately our s hool is excellant and dd3 has all this help and a 1:1 TA so for us I'm pleased the school.will.receive it to go a little way to fund my expensive dd. :-)

Not being selfish prideandjoy., gifted and talented areas of Adopted children should be addressed wish funding was available for some
of our children, may have saved them going off the rails out of sheer frustration, got back on track as young adult's. They are doing OK now
no thanks too system. School boast how clever some were used children at open evening too promote the school not the child. Ended up at London School of economics fast tracked. Most are self employed now.
Lot's of our Kids have talent's one way or other ,
Have DS at SEN School will be used for this purpose hopefully explore his
strength's. DD's BF are all high academic see how it goes
