Myself and DH are meeting with SS next week for inital discussion on potentially adopting a family member who has been taken into care. The visit is expected to last about an hour and a half, what kind of questions will they ask?

No idea really. But maybe mix of info and questions/discussions:

Factual

  • are you aware of reasons for going into care and need for new permanent home
  • implications of the above
  • will you get adoption leave (you to ask SS)

Practical

  • where would they sleep
  • if you work how would you do school run / manage school holidays
  • are you aware of local schools / help getting into school
  • are you aware of other child facilities in your area
  • can you afford it

Emotional

  • could you do it
  • what if behaviour problems
  • what about contact to Birth parents
  • how will you keep LO safe from birth parents
  • how would your own children (if any) react / accept

If you decide to pursue this you need to get independent advice about the legal options/implications

Do not mention this to SS BTW
