Hello, I felt I ought to introduce myself, I've read threads on this board for over three years now since we adopted our DS (4) and DD (3), and I have decided that it feels weird to keep reading without contributing. I feel like I know some of you quite well and come on here for sensible advice and opinions, and to find some community. So hello everyone.

Hi Piffy and Loflo, I mostly lurk too because I don't feel as wise as most of the people on here but like you, I feel like I know everyone here. A friend of mine has just adopted a 3 1/2 year old from Russia and is having a tough time so I was advising her to come here where people will be able to give her some good advice. It's a great non-judgemental place. So glad I found it.

Hi Piffy, I'm an addicted lurker and occasional poster.

Just googled the Piffy saying and it looks like its the 1930's equivalent of when us Essex people ( and perhaps others?) say " I was sitting there like Colin no mates"

I think sitting like Piffy on a rock is a nicer way to say it and less offensive to anyone called Colin!

Not sure why we use Colin when everyone else in the world say's Billy no mates

We must have had some very unhappy Colins at my school

I'll have to ask MIL about that saying, I've only ever heard her say it. All those poor Colins in Essex! We'd say Billy no mates in the North West. Billy seems to be quite a popular name amongst the children at the mo, so maybe I should say the Piffy thing a lot in the hope it will catch on and save some sad Billies.

Hope you've all had a good day. We were in a bit of a flap about a meeting at school, but it was ok in the end. Phew!
