how long for matching

Just wondering how long people waited after approval for a match? How long until a match was agreed? and how long after agreeing the match did your little ones come home?

OP posts:

With DD1, I waited 7 months to get first information about her, and then we started introductions nearly 4 months later. DD2, got initial information about her 10 months after approval, we agreed a match about 3 months after that, and started intros about 2 months after that

Although, during those 7 and 10 months, I had other potential matches and visits, so it could have been quicker. I'm glad it wasn't, because I now have them, but I was seeing profiles quickly after approval

(recieving initial info) I've known people wait a couple of days, or 2 years. However long it takes, have faith the right child will come to you in the end

I would say this - when you have information, which looks positive and you want to go forwards, get as much information as possible. Don't proceed without lots of information, even though it's horrid waiting. Don't let a match get rushed

I think we waited six months after approval before first hearing about our dd. We went to matching panel three months later, and introductions started about 10 days after that I think.

A match was identified for me a month before Panel, we were matched 3 months after approval, with placement date being 3 weeks later :)

what lilka said, i know of families who have been told of a potential match just aftre panels while others have waited more than two years. soem have given up as they cant go on living with that kind of stress any longer.

generally its a pretty straightforward supply and demand situation. do you want a high demand or low demand child ? are you the kind of family sws want? how many children ( of the kind you are apporved for) does your agency currently have waiting? what is your agencys policy and practice on matching with children from other agencies?

you shoudl alreday know the answer to q1 and q2. they shoudl be willing to tell you the answers to Q3-4

usually there is no waiting list, contrary to popular belief. by that i mean, a family approved one year doesnt get priority over one approved six months ago.its entirely dependent on the childs SW, they are the ones who make the submissions to the matching panel.

sometimes the birth family will express a preference, this is usually for youger married couple and often related to religion or ethnicity. i know one birth mum who chose the Aps because ine was a teacher and she wanted parenst who would encourage her child to get a good education.

We were told of a match befor panel, but that really was against the rules, our SW was just so excited about the perfect match.
So. Panel was in May. Match in June. Girls came home in July.
With dd3 who is birth sister, we got a phone call in September and she was home just before christmas( best Christmas present ever.)
I think a lot of it comes down to what children are awaiting a family and of those children how many fit your profile.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 30/06/2012 21:50

With DS we were approved end of May , matched mid June and he came home with us on 11th Sept after 10 days of introductions.

With DD we were approved in Feb, matched mid March and she came home on 10th June.

FamiliesShareGerms · 06/07/2012 09:17

Approved July; given details of our DD straightaway; matching panel four weeks later; introductions began 5 days after. We were very unusual (and very unlucky). I think the average is something like 14 months, but everyone in our prep group has been under 12 months.

FamiliesShareGerms · 06/07/2012 09:18

lucky!! we were very very lucky!! Horrid typo

Kewcumber · 06/07/2012 15:49

hah Families! I once mistyped lucky as licky, it was a totally odd post with made total sense in a bizarre way with licky and made me look like a total weirdo!

FamiliesShareGerms · 06/07/2012 15:50

Grin at Kew!

We were told about our daughter 3 months after panel (it felt like the longest 3 months ever) and then waited another 2 months to meet her - the most wonderful day! She came home just over a week later. As other posters have said, it depends on who you want to adopt - we were exceptionally lucky to have such a short wait for our little one I think.

MissFenella · 15/07/2012 23:18

we were given two potential matches the day of the panel (which was end of May) and have matching panel at end of August. It feels like forever and is dragging horribly, not helped by FC going for a holiday the day of panel and creating an additional 2 week delay.

A lot will depend on how specific your criteria is though.

Hayleyh34 · 18/07/2012 10:35

We were approved in November. Heard about our daughter in May, went to matching in September. Bought her home in October.

Has been with us for 18 months now and she is lovely
