While im on the subject, the latest piece of news in the Big Fat Wedding front is that the bridemaids are to wear black. Y 'know, like a funeral. Bridesmaids are one friend of each bride and small Dd. She is 12yo, skinny, lanky and spotty in that pre teen way. She hates black and it does nothing for her. Strapless dresses areparticularly hideous on skiiny kids with no boobs. So Shes in the huff, as only a 12 yo can huff.

Black has been chosen as one bride doesnt approve of the others choice Of bridesmaid ( because shes fat AND butch and the only thing that counts is how she will look in the photos, innit? ) so this is to make the poor girl look slimmer .sigh

Could little DD wear a lovely silvery grey? Would fat butch bridesmaid approve? Or purple? You can't make a 12 year old wear strapless surely?!

FLower girls can wear something different can't they?

Oh blimey. Can't butch bridesmaid wear a nice tux? And little bridesmaid wear something with black on it? When i was a bridesmaid, back in the time of dragons, my dress was ivory silk with a delicate black pen-and-ink stylee floral design on it. Sounds hideous, but the flowers were very small and delicate and it worked very well. Something like that would go with the butch ladies in black taffeta, wouldn't it?

I am SO excited about Big Fat Wedding and hoping that a couple of glasses of wine will loosen inhibitions and elicit yet further revelations

I dont tbink fat butch bridesmaid has been given any say in the matter, bless her heart. She is very old friend of the other bride and i feel most indignent on her behalf that she is being dressed in black taffeta in feeble attempt by size -ist brides to make her look " acceptable". As you can tell, i thoroughly disapprove of modern trend to make weddings all about style, image and appearance. Where old , dear and loyal friends are suddenly judged as inadequate because they do not fit conventional ideas of beauty

Thansk for suggestions re flower girl dress. Ive been googling for white /ivory dresses with black and there are lots that are most acceptabel. I will discuss with small DD and big DD

Do any of you meet up with children, or just without?
I'm not at the stage of leaving my child yet as they have only been home a few weeks but would be keen to meet up in the future :)

we have only met without children in the evening Happy, although Devora and I have tried and failed miserably to meet with children. Mostly I find that by the time you've factored in meeting other friends the logistics of meeting MN adopters is tricky as we often live a fair way apart.

I found MN local quite good for meeting with other parents with children at similar ages and have made some good freinds that way. Or your local adoption team may well have drop in mornings which might work better for you if you have a pre-school child.

Maryz - yes yes yes definitely up for a coffee meet in October. Make the "might" firm and we'll plan something.

Oh god, kew, we have no excuse. We're practically neighbours. But life is very full. How about over half term?

Happy, another factor is that our children are very different ages. But I have quite a small one (2) and I'm always up for a get-together so let us know when you're up for it

we're away from Tuesday of half term so only around the bank hol weekend. Though we have an inset day on the Friday next week if you do too?

I could be up for a with children meet up at some point, but I can see how the logistics would be defeating.
