Hi, we've come to the various police check part of the home study and have a quick question.
Social worker isn't sure whether I need a finger print check or just a plain police check for my time in Aus. I assured her MN would be able to help.

Thanks in advance anyone who's been there done that.

I know general things about background checks, bit nothing Australia specific

Did you just spend some time living in Australia, or are you a citizen? Some criminal/police checks are only available to citizens of a country, so you need to check what it is Australia could give you in the first place

Contacting the Australian embassy might work, or you could read the websites of whichever organisation runs these checks and see the requirements. If you have more than one kind of check open to you (which seems unlikely) then get the more thorough one. It may even be (if you were only temporarily living in Aus and have no other connection to the country) that you can not anything, not sure how you explain that to SS

they don;t do finger print checks here do they? They didn't when I was going through it so I can't beleive they'd expect it from Aus.

Thanks Lilka,
Yes unfortunately the info site offers two, one with fingerprints one without. Just says fingerprint check is required in very limited circumstances but doesn't go on to explain them.
It's also not very clear as to what category I tick as to why I need the check at all.

I'll bight the bullet and get the enhanced. Was trying to economise as I already need to pay to get prints for Canada and Scotland Yard charges £65 a go.

Sorry cross posts. Yes Kew for a few countries the police require your prints.
Unfortunately for me I have spent long periods of time in a few of them.

Sorry not trying to hide! Just name changed this evening as I didn't like the sound of funderburgh.

No you misunderstood - I mean this country doesn;t require fingerprints and therefore if there is a choice of CRB type check from another country I would expect that we would be happy with a non-fingerprint check as that is standard here.

My experience is that social services have little experience of procedures overseas (bitter experience!) and will be happy with anything which equates to what is done here.

Oh, ok. Get you now.
Might give the australian high commission a call in the morning and ask just to clarify. Don't want to get it wrong only to be asked for a different one a week before panel.
