Know ANYthing about Inter-Country Adoptions?

Please help! :)

Totally new to the site but am assured by a good friend that one of you will know something about this and be able to point us in the right direction, please.

We would like to adopt a child from India and have sent emails (as you cannot call) to the given agency in Darlington, for further information. As yet no response.

In the meantime, we have started the process here in the UK, having made the first call on June 1st 2011 and have only just got to the first rung of the ladder the best part of a year later. It's already been a long and drawn out process with very little progress made at all.

All advice, thoughts, contacts etc welcomed.

You will not get any information from the DCFS that you can't find online. And their information on most countries isn't as accurate as other sources. I would try the Intercountry adoption centre in Barnet. Unfortunately my understanding is that it is exceptionally difficult to adopt from India unless you have indian heritage and local contacts - but I don't know anyone who has tried so my information might be a little out of date.

Things may have changed "On 21 February 2011 Intercountry Adoption Centre was enlisted as an authorised Foreign Adoption Agency by the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), the central authority for adoption in India. Following this, IAC plans to offer an India Linking Service from summer 2011. "
