Hi

If i wanted to trace my birth father where on earth would I start? I know my birth mother but we are not on speaking terms so i can't find anything about him that way.

Keeping this brief as I don't want to give myself away

Do you have your original birth certificate?
If so, is he named on it? Do you at least have a name and any details?

mamamoonmim · 17/11/2011 18:28

You'd need to ask social services. Or find your birth certificate.

KristinaM · 17/11/2011 23:01

Unless his name is on your original birth certificate, the only way you can find out is from your birth mother. Unless there is anyone else who knows who he is and will tell you

It would be very ususula for Ss records to have any information on him, unless they were married at the time. He will be referred to as the putative father and wont be named

Sorry, i guess thats not what youbwanted to hear

Goldenbrown1981 · 18/11/2011 11:41

Ok. I thought that was probably the case. I don't have my original birth certificate because my Mam has it (adoptive mam, but I refuse to call her that). I believe he is named on it but I don't want to ask her as I think she will be very hurt. I guess it's a no go for me, I'd rather not know than upset her.

You can get copies of your birth certificate if you have enough details online

KristinaM · 18/11/2011 16:32

Not sure if youbcan get it online( if you have been adopted) but youbcan certainly get your own copy from the general registarts office, if you were born in the uk

RuthChan · 18/11/2011 18:16

Yes, you can certainly get your own copy of your birth certificate.

This is the link to try.

If you can't get it on line due to your adoption, you can contact them for help.
