I have recently found this thread and have read it with interest. I read how difficult people find it and the struggles that they face but I wanted to say to everyone who is thinking of adopting or who has adopted what a truly wonderful thing you are doing. I was adopted as a child and it truly saved me. My siblings remained and their lives have been so different to mine. My sister is a very damaged adult, my brother committed suicide. I went from a life where I was not valued, not really care for to a life where I was cherished and had opportunities I could never have dreamed of. I met my birth mother some years later but she was the woman who gave birth to me. It was the couple who adopted me, who loved me so much, no matter what that are my parents. So to everyone who is having a bad day or finding it hard going know what you are doing is one of the most amazing and worthwhile things you could do with you life and people like me know that you are all heros.

What a lovely post. I am considering adopting in the future and my biggest worry is all the attachment gumpf if an adoption cannot take place until child is 1yr+ but your post has pointed out that kids are put up for adoption for a very good reason and in most cases an adoption will be much better than the birth family.

What a lovely post. Thank you, slipperandpjsmum. I am about to adopt a little girl (like, tomorrow!) and will think of your post over the exhausting days to come!
