I am looking into an adoption that took place a long time ago. I have been told that the court file is available forinspection at the appropriate court.

Can anybody tell me what sort of information is likely to be found in a court adoption file?

very limited factual information

name of mother, age , address, occupation and similar on adoptive parents

unlikely to be information on the father

brief details on why child adopted eg mother not married

the tone will reflect the views and attitudes of the times eg 1950s. you might find this upsetting

if it is your own adoption file you might require to have " counselling" first
