Submitted wrong employment end date on job application

I have been offered a job on the condition I receive satisfactory employment checks. When filling out my info for my security checks, I noticed I put my end date for my last job as March 2021 but it should be March 2020! Looking for advice on how to fix this without looking like a total buffoon or a liar and spoiling my chances at this dream job

So what have you been doing since March 2020?

I’ve been in another job since then but am leaving to start a new one, granted I can make this right. why?

Well, you should have an overlap then where your CV shows you working two roles during 2020-2021. So it’s an easy thing to say, oops a typo.

But if your CV says
Job 2021-present
Job 2019- 2021

then it will look bad indeed.

No overlap as I had a year off (company closed so took redundancy and then maternity) but that year off now isn’t showing on my application

😕 I’m sorry but leaving out an entire CV entry with a 1yr gap in employment due to redundancy is not really explainable as a clerical error like a typo on a date.

I don’t think you can recover from this when it’s a job with security checks. That omission is going to be a flag for untrustworthiness. I hope you have other offers pending or possibilities, because you may lose this job offer.

Your best chance is to admit it as soon as you can, because you will have no chance if you wait for them to catch it. I hate to be so pessimistic, but that’s my honest opinion.

Just a wee update for anyone who might find this post in future. I pointed out the error, they haven’t batted an eyelid and all is well

I was going to say, just tell them and I see you've done that and all is well Smile
