Halloween - projected moving images on windows

Saw some really impressive decorations when out trick or treating last night, including a number of houses where they were projecting images on their windows. Not like those projectors that you put out the front and see rotating images of a pumpkin, a ghost and a skull etc over the front of your house. These were high res images playing on the windows. Some of them were like movies, and others were just moving images of a spooky figure. I have been trying to work out how this is done and am a bit confused - online research suggests that they must be using a video projector with a screen on the window, but some houses had them in several windows, and surely these people don’t own multiple video projectors and screens? I assume they have some gadget that is specifically for a particular holiday, and costs a lot less than your standard video projector.

Or is my knowledge of home entertainment technology really out of date??

I saw one of these and wondered too! Hopefully someone will be along with the answer

I've got skeleton ones that I placed inside my porch. You can angle up and down. Porch windows had dancing skeletons. A great signal to trick or treaters that we were joining in.

They're a very small unit that takes batteries. Smaller than the size of a box of laundry pods.
Got mine in Lidl - £4 99.

No idea how they work. I bought them thinking they were sets of string lights!

I'll look more closely if anyone's very keen to know.
Tomorrow though as its 02.45 .

Yes please @Havingaswimmoose! If you could share a photo of it that would be great!

Ooh, I'm interested as well. Would love to see a picture of one as I can't quite imagine it- and my neighbours evidently don't know about them either

This is the type from Lidl. Lots of the children commented on it.

We have this one. It wasn’t bought for Halloween but we had orange Kraft paper up on the window and projected from inside the house. It was very effective both inside and out.

i was considering doing this! You need:

a screen that’s hung close or taped to the window, a white shower curtain seems to be cheapest and easiest way

a projector that you can cast/connect to from your laptop or phone. They are about £25 on Amazon / eBay, eg

a looping video to play, there are ready made ones on YouTube, eg

for around £30 a room I can believe some people might do multiple windows, and of course they can use the projector for the rest of the year as their tv

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

We have this one, you just put the white over the windows and it projects onto it, it doesn't matter if there are gaps in the window and there is sound too.

A house near me had one and it was brilliant. From what I saw they had a white sheet hanging over the window and it was projected onto that.
There was one point where the ghost came up to the window and was banging on it.

The house opposite had this and I hated it-creepy looking eyes was the worst image-I avoided looking that way whenever it was dark. The Christmas selection was much better!
