To ask if you use social media?

Do you use social media? Is it a big part of your life… I’m mid 40s. My world feels unusually small at the moment.

I for the first time in a decade and a half just don’t want social media anymore BUT I have a SEN child and get a huge amount of information from Insta and Facebook. My mum also has cancer and the support groups have been phenomenal.

i live in an affluent area with wealthy friends … and everyone has been on big holidays like Dubai, India, New York, Bali, Thailand..and then plenty of European destinations including Ikos and Sani. We are not as wealthy but we’ve done our fair share of big holidays. I’m not even jealous but I just need a quiet life.

Mum’s cancer, my autistic daughter, family life, my eldest child’s health issues, my own health issues have just been overwhelming plus my DH is very busy with work and elderly care if his parents too,

Yiu see in some ways Social media is a lifeline in research, workshops info etc for my SEN child and supporting my mum with her cancer (mum has very low literacy so I support her a lot).

what is a compromise? Can anyone help?

Do a clearing out exercise
delete anyone or anything you don’t want but tap into things that are beneficial.
Anything that upsets/triggers or anyone irritating or irrelevant-
just get rid.

Yes I guess I feel like a decade and a half of social media there is just too much. And honestly I’m feeling bitter about people’s seemingly perfect lives - I know I know I’m being stupid. But if I see one more picture of skating at the rockerfellar or I don’t know idyllic pics of Thai beaches I’ll scream!!! I just need the busyness out of my life but the SEN world and the cancer groups are so so helpful. I’ve learned so much to support mum and my daughter. You’re right I need to do a clear out. If it’s people I need to just unfollow.

i think I’ll just take a break for a couple of weeks then go back, I guess I’m just feeling overwhelmed with everything we have going on and I know how blessed we are still.

Obviously anyone who answers does. I only come on mumsnet and use facebooks occasionally for groups. I'm fairly well off and don't feel he need to go on anything else.

I think the well off element is just I shouldn’t get annoyed at people’s holidays and pics cos I’ve done it all too but I just need a break. I’m probably soudling like a total dick tbh and please note I’m not from wealth. I just live in such a wealthy area that so much is normalised and I’m just fed up of seeing it all.

I do want the SEN support and I want the cancer support for mum. I will do as PP said and just start removing and filtering but I do need a break too. So I think I’ll take some time off it too.
