Flying UK to Dublin with Ryanair - rip in passport

I’m due to fly to Dublin next week. I’ve discovered my passport has a rip in the photo page as it had got wet! It’s very old due for renewal next year. None of the details are affected, but the rip is prob about 2cm.
I’m flying with Ryanair so need a passport, but unsure if they will let me fly with a passport that has a rip. Could they be lenient as in theory I only need a driving license to enter Dublin.

They might. They might not. Call them

I did - but they were not much help. All they said was, is that I need to bring a passport!

I can't remember where but I read about someone who was refused travel because of a tiny tear in the passport. They weren't going to Dublin though.
Apparently it's because it raised suspicions of tampering.

Ryanair do not accept driving licences. They only accept passports or national identity cards.

I once flew (circa 15 years ago) with a very soggy passport, was flying home from Italy. I had a few questions exiting Italy but was ok coming back through Heathrow.

I guess you just have to turn up and try your luck. Make sure you have driver licence and any other ID.

I'll stick my neck out and say you should be okay if you're a UK citizen travelling to Ireland. If you have a driving licence take that with you too. Technically you only need photo ID to travel from the UK to Ireland, but Ryanair insist on a passport.
