My daughter has ADHD and we strongly suspect her younger brother does too. She didn’t get diagnosed as autistic due to commutation being fine. But met every other diagnostic criteria and all but one criteria for ADHD. The clinical psychologist stressed communication issues may arise as social pressures increase (starts secondary next year) and may warrant re assessment . She is 11 and he is 8. I feel on the edge of burnout and just don’t know how to survive the years ahead. I’m seeing a counsellor (been three times so far) but otherwise how do I get through with my sanity intact?
My DH is the same. He’s very much an equal partner and we do divide and conquer a lot, which helps. But I feel sad I hardly ever see him. I mourn the fact we can never have a family day out. They just can’t be near each other without one triggering the other in a massive meltdown. Bed time is so difficult I dread it everyday. I haven’t got the energy to go into the kinds of things they do but if you have a ND kid you know.
How do we get through years more of this while both working full time as well? We’re hanging by a thread. I dread to think what will be left is our relationship when they finally leave. If we make it that far. All tips welcome.
