User manuals for things that don't need user manuals

I've just bought a memory foam pillow and it came with a user manual. Amongst the wisdom it contains it says not to iron the pillow. I have never ironed a pillow, memory foam or otherwise.

What things have you bought that came with unnecessary manuals?

Nothing immediately springs to mind BUT we live in a damn society where everything needs to either be spelled out because people are too lazy to think for themselves, or a suing culture where if it’s not written down, then I’ll do it and ask for compensation, or both.

I once had an electric blanket which came with a warning to unplug before washing!

I love the blindingly obvious and imagine someone trying it.

We are a country that needs a reminder not to drink bleach.

I knew someone who put milk in a kettle to make a hot chocolate so unfortunately there is a cohort of the population that needs these manuals!

I had a university flatmate who boiled an egg by putting it in a pan, turning on the gas and timing 3 minutes. It exploded. No one told him to put water in the pan. 🤦

I bought a pencil sharpener, one that was battery powered so slightly more complicated than the usual. The instruction leaflet folded out to about A3 size.

A long time ago, when I first started work, the brand of “post its” we used to get came with a multi-language leaflet telling you not to lick them.

I once had a hairdryer that came with the instructions "Do not use under water."

Bags of nuts with the notice "Warning, contains nuts".

I treated a patient with burns received from their steam ironing their trousers whilst wearing them.

I bought a pack of coin batteries that had a warning on the back saying "non microwaveable packaging" 🤔

Last year's Christmas crackers (the ones you pull, not to go with cheese) said you had to wash them before use!
