23 years ago my life changed on Halloween

My husband of 16 years told me he was seeing someone else. We had no kids (he was infertile and refused to adopt).
I was shocked .....but after a few weeks free of him it felt like a weight had been lifted and I was free, I could see how controlling my ex had been.

Very unexpectedly, in December I met a man. I definitely wasn't looking for a relationship!!. He had been in school with my brother, single with no kids....we just clicked and it felt right.
We were married in August and by October I was pregnant!
What a year.......divorced married and pregnant🤣

Still happily married with a 21 and 19 year old.

Everything happens for a reason! Sounds like as hard as that must have been at the time it was a fantastic thing for you in the long run.

My OH's auntie told me how she met his uncle. She'd just been dumped by her ex & she was now a single mum of a toddler. She went for a rare night out on NY Eve & met the man of her dreams (OH's uncle). They've been married now for around 50 years

What happened to your ex?

Everyone I know who has been dumped has ended up happier and their ex is miserable. I know that’s not always the case but it is for those I know.

Ex married the ow......last I hear he was living g on his own in rural France with his dog.

Were you very young when you first married?

I was 19 when we got married, he was a police officer and at that time they were entitled to free housing, but only if you married, living together was not allowed.
We were in London and had a two bedroom flat in South Hampstead rent free.
We were together a lot longer than many couples who marry older.
If mumsnet had existed in the 90s I would probably have left him years before.....but coercive control wasn't talked about.
